If you will be spending it with us here at Breckenridge, SkyRun can guarantee an exciting day full of awesome America-celebrating activities and adventures! Come join your neighbors in proudly honoring this nation in the best ways we know how. The following is a list of a bunch of really great events that will be taking place in and around town this spirited 4th of July!

Breckenridge Independence Day 10K Trail Run

This Fourth of July is going to start out just right with our Breckenridge Independence Day 10K Trail Run. Hosted by the town of Breckenridge Recreation Department, this 5 years old and up activity is very popular and tends to sell out quickly online. As of right now the list is full, but don’t lose hope! There is a waiting list open, day of registration option, and anyone can come and cheer the runners on. Runners get to enjoy some of the best scenic views in town as they journey through town and mountain trails. The race starts promptly at 7:00 am at Carter Park on South High Street and ends just in time to get to the parade on Main Street. You can see information about registration and more at www.BreckenridgeRecreation.com or call 970.453.1734.

Historic Main Street Independence Day Parade

We here at SkyRun believe that everyone can agree that the Fourth of July just isn’t the Fourth of July we know and love without a proper Fourth of July parade! What’s more American than promenading through town decked out red, white and blue and proudly waving old glory while a marching band plays “America the Beautiful” and “God Bless America” is sung by pint sized girl scouts? Join the family friendly crowds on historic Main Street and take place in the festivities. Parade officially starts at 10 am on North Main Street and heads south. If you’d like to participate in the parade, come to the staging area on Main at the French Street Intersection around 9 am and sign up.

Reading of the Declaration of Independence

This special reading of the Declaration of Independence will take place at the Blue River Plaza shortly after the Independence Parade on Main Street by a super special guest- George Washington! Well, not quite, but C.J. Muller will be dressed like George Washington and plays the role very well.

Fourth of July Garden Party

Why sweat out in the boonies trying to get a glimpse at the parade on Main when you can get the best seats in the house, specifically the Barney Ford House, with drinks and breakfast to boot! Reserve your seats, then come at 9 am and gather in style on the museum lawn and show your support for the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance by attending its annual Fourth of July Garden Party. For more information and to reserve your seats, call 970-453-9767 ext. 2.

Firecracker 50 Mountain Bike Race

Thirty minutes prior to the start of Breckenridge’s Fourth of July parade on Main Street, a different kind of parade will race down Main. Starting at 9:30 am, over 800 cyclist will clear the way as they launch out on a 50 mile bike race. You can be one of the spectators who will excitedly cheer the racers or you can register at www.mavsports.com and be one of those adventurous and brave cyclist!

Main Street Activities

Come back to Main Street at noon to join in on one of the many fun and free activities taking place. There will be a drum circle, a kid’s water balloon fight hosted by the Red, White and Blue Fire Department, and free pony rides thanks to Farview Horse Rescue!

Free Concert at the Riverwalk Center

Rock out with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band around 2 pm at the Riverwalk Center! This world famous seven man ensemble band originates from and brings with it the spirit of New Orleans.

Arts District Festivals

The Breckenridge Arts District will be alive this Independence Day with its 33rd Annual Breckenridge July Art Festival and a separate festival taking place simultaneously, the Street Arts Festival brought to you by Breckenridge Creative Arts. Running from July 2nd to the 4th, both free festivals have on display some of the top art in America.

Patriotic Concert

The Town of Breckenridge and National Repertory Orchestra have put together their annual patriotic concert that will take place at 8 pm at the Riverwalk Center. This amazing display of musical talent will be soon followed by an amazing display of pyrotechnics!

Fireworks!

At approximately 9:45 pm with weather permitting, a fleet of fireworks will lift off from the North Gondola Lot and explode in the sky, with a grand sight of illumination that will be visible all over town. Get your “Oooh’s” and “Aaah’s” ready for this fully professional pyrotechnic demonstration of blaze and power!
